<div>Hi Aimee. I'm not as AP as I ought to be, want to be, or need to be...but our kids have been seeing Dr. Walter at Duke Peds from day one. He's not holistic. When I became a mom I didn't know that there were issues with vax, let alone that you could pass on or delay vax until we'd left the state a couple years ago so we've never had THAT discussion with him. I can say that he (and the same-day-clinic docs) is not anti-biotics happy, he's listened to concerns I've had with the kiddos and made suggestions or referrals, and their after-hours nurse advice line (supported by UNC HealthLink) has proven to be wonderfully helpful and can sometimes schedule first-thing-in-the-morning appts depending on the situation and the availibility of time slots. I also like that they have a same-day sick clinic at their Roxboro Rd. location so if I can't get in to see Dr. Walters in a timely manner I know I can get seen by SOMEBODY. It's staffed by
med students/residents/whatever they call it--they're doctors but it's like their training ground I guess. Anyway, a nurse takes you to your room, asks what's going on and takes vitals; then the resident comes in, asks what's going on and talks with you and checks things out; then they get their supervising doc who comes in and asks what's going on and checks things out. I like that we get to help somebody become a better doctor but that we're not at their complete mercy because they're overseen. We had great fun one time with Scarlet Fever--absolutely NO symptoms except the sandpaper rash--stumped three residents with it. *lol*</div> <div> </div> <div>Our first visit with Dr. Walter after we returned to state I had informed him that I'd been utilizing aromatherapy blends to keep youngest out of his croup cycle. he didn't seem open/enthusiastic about it, but he didn't badger/pester/harrass either. *shrug* We haven't been in
much since then to continue the subject/education so I'm not sure if there's room for additional understanding. We also tease him about the Notre Dam/USC rivalry (he's ND, grandpa is a longtime Trojan fan--fight song ringtone incl.).</div> <div> </div> <div>It's not a perfect fit, but for being allopathic I'm pretty content for the time being. They've been really good about answering my q's about WHEN I ought to get worried about something and what I ought to do if we get to that point. We've been with three different peds offices in three states in three years. Again from an allopathic stand-point: I prefer the set-up of Duke Peds with the advice line and the same-day; I prefer Dr. Prentiss in WY who looked at eldest for additional clues with youngest--his colleague Dr. Leland was in high-demand because he'd sit and talk with you till ALL of your questions were aired and hopefully answered; the peds office in CA was mediocre, had some
interesting convos with the doc but I wasn't thrilled with the nursing staff, front desk was great. *shrug*</div> <div> </div> <div>Hope it was helpful info.</div> <div>Jessica</div> <div>Snow Camp</div> <div>(i ought to make an intro i suppose...)<BR><BR><B><I>Jack Walker <jwalker44@verizon.net></I></B> wrote:</div> <BLOCKQUOTE class=replbq style="PADDING-LEFT: 5px; MARGIN-LEFT: 5px; BORDER-LEFT: #1010ff 2px solid"> <META content="Microsoft Word 11 (filtered medium)" name=Generator><?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:SmartTagType name="City" namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"></o:SmartTagType><o:SmartTagType name="place" namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"></o:SmartTagType> <STYLE> st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } </STYLE> <STYLE> <!-- /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0in; margin-bottom:.0001pt;
